Gavin's 6th Birthday (Star Wars t-shirt shorts and birthday shirt)

Gavin's birthday was Saturday but we didn't have his party until Sunday.
He was so excited!  I can't tell you how squirmy he was at church.

I almost took the easy way out Saturday night after running around all day celebrating Gavin's birthday, but when we got home I asked him if he wanted to wear his 6 shirt and shorts or did he want me to make him a Star Wars outfit.  He said that it didn't matter but that he would like a Star Wars outfit.  I stayed up half the night and made a Star Wars outfit and I am so glad I did.  It looked great with his cake :)

 Luke & Gavin
Next week Luke will be celebrating his birthday.
They are 8 days apart.

Richard is such a big help.  I couldn't do it without him.  He got up Sunday morning and made a trip to Knoxville to pick the cake up.
wonder what he is wishing for???

Polkadaisies...Gavin is sporting a new item for his birthday (t-shirt shorts)

I'm sure I have over-loaded you with pictures of my kids lately, but we have had a lot going on around here lately and the blog is my easiest way of documenting everything.  Otherwise, I could never keep up with everything.  I use to be great about photo albums and scrap books but I just don't have time for that any more.  So, I hope I don't bore you too much.  I promise to get back to orders soon.
Gavin gets left out a lot when it comes to Polkadaisies, but sometimes he lucks up and gets some goodies.  It's just harder to make the boys stuff.  He always gets new stuff for his birthday and this year I wanted to do something a little different for him.  I may have mentioned before, but my husband loves clothes just as much as I do and maybe more.  He also has a hard time getting rid of things even though he keeps getting new things.  Needless to say, his closet is overflowing along with the 2 closets in his bathroom.  I think he even has some in Gavin's closet, in the foyer closet, and in the basement.  Oh, lets not forget the garage and laudry room too.  You get my point...his clothes are everywhere.  We went through some of them and I got him to hand over some of his t-shirts and I made Gavin some shorts.
I really enjoyed making them.  It was lots of fun and I always like doing something new.
I made Sadie a new tank top dress to coordinate although she was bummed I didn't make her some shorts out of her daddy's shirts.  (such a daddy's girl)

We took Gavin to Knoxville for his birthday dinner and a little shopping.  Sadie got her ears pierced while we were at the mall.  I was thrilled that she had finally decided to do it.

Gavin headed straight for the legos when we reached Toys r us.

I made him another pair that I will share with you later.

Hold on to those t-shirts and we can make your little one some cute shorts!

3rd grade was a hit!

I am so happy that Sadie loved her first day of 3rd grade.  It was rough for me because not only is she not in my class but she is now in the "big kid hall".  I probably won't get to see her much at all during the day but I do feel much better about things now.

Funny things kids say:
As we were leaving school today, Sadie over heard a conversation I was having with another parent about how hard it is to lose weight.  The other parent said her problem was candy bars and I said my problem is bread.  After school I took Sadie to Zaxby's and I turned in toward Taco Bell.  Sadie asked if I was going to Taco Bell (if I'm gonna have fast food, I often go to Taco bell because I am watching calories and a taco is much better than most options).  As I am pulling up Sadie says..."Bread is not your only problem!"  LOL!  So true!

Later in the evening, Sadie asked me if I had her early.  I told her I did so she wanted to know how long she had to stay in the hospital.  I told her that we had to stay two nights and then we got to come home.  Gavin turned around and said "Sadie, you had to stay in the hospital two days so you could get use to mommy and like her before she brought you home."

Papaw Pre-school graduation

I debated and debated on sending Gavin to pre-school but decided against it and I am so glad I did.  The alternative was having "papaw pre-school" and that is what we went with.  I can not put into words how thankful I am that Gavin had this opportunity.  Not everyone qualifies for "papaw pre-school", but Gavin met all of the requirements to attend.  The biggest requirement is having a retired papaw who is willing to hang out with a 4/5yr old.  I wouldn't take anything for the time Gavin has spent with my dad.  The experiences they have shared this past year are much more important to not only Gavin, but to me as well, than any pre-school he could have went to and I'm sure Gavin will always remember their adventures.  Most days began with a trip to the Corner Market for breakfast but the rest of their days were always unpredictable.  They spent days fishing, playing golf, running a back hoe or bull dozer, working on cars and boats, emergency rooms (papaw cutting his finger open), painting houses, shopping, etc.  They also spent days practicing math (Gavin can add surprisingly well), writing his name, learning his letters,  tieing his shoes, computer activities, ect.  Throughout the past year Gavin has started calling papaw Pop.  He doesn't say it every time, but it is always at the sweetest moments and it expresses that special  bond they have made.  Gavin has always been close to my dad, but it stepped up a notch this past year.  Everyone has asked what my dad will do this year without Gavin and I'm sure he will keep busy but my hopes are to sign him up for a "parent volunteer" this year since I will have Gavin in my Kindergarten class.  haha!  It's sad thinking that his days will not be spent with "Pop" but I am really exciting about spending my days with him.  I have had Sadie the past two years in class ( 1st and 2nd grade) but this year she will no longer have me for a teacher.  She is heading to 3rd grade without me and I am looking forward to teaching Gavin.  I have been so fortunate to have my kids in class and it makes being a working mom so much better.  If I am going to work, I will do anything to spend my days with my kids.  After two years with Sadie, I am sad to think about her being in 3rd grade without me but I feel that it's only fair to give Gavin the opportunity to have me for a teacher.  It has put both of us at ease about him starting school.  I know things are going to be totally different with him because he is the total opposite of Sadie, but hopefully it will be a great experience.  If not, I guess I will be calling Papaw to come and get him.  Haha!

With all that being said...
Dad, I want to thank you for being there for Gavin and making all those wonderful memories that he will never forget.  You get teacher of the year in my book.

Gavin received a certificate from Pop
along with a one hundred dollar bill
for pre-school graduation
Gavin had been "wanting one of those bills for a long time" ;)
